How this surah is built:
Criterion Refuting Objections Judgment Signs Mockery Character
25:1–20
The Qur’an as the Criterion; Allah’s sovereignty; false gods; accusations against revelation; why the messenger is human

1.Blessed is He who has sent down the Criterion upon His servant that he may be a warner to all mankind.

2.He is to whom belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; He has not taken a son; He has no partner in sovereignty; He created everything and ordained its destiny.

3.They have taken besides Him gods who create nothing, are themselves created, possess no harm/benefit, and possess no power over death, life, or resurrection.

4.Disbelievers say: “This (Qur’an) is a falsehood he invented, and another people helped him.” They have produced injustice and a lie.

5.They say: “Legends of the ancients, written down, dictated morning and evening.”

6.Say: “It was sent down by the One who knows the secret in the heavens and the earth. He is Forgiving, Merciful.”

7.They say: “What kind of messenger eats food and walks in markets? Why isn’t an angel sent with him?”

8.“Or a treasure bestowed on him, or a garden he eats from.” Wrongdoers say: “You follow a bewitched man.”

9.See how they bring examples for you; they go astray and cannot find a way.

10.Blessed is He who, if He willed, could give you better: gardens with rivers and palaces.

11.But they denied the Hour, and We prepared for deniers of the Hour a blazing Fire.

12.When it sees them from afar, they hear its raging and roaring.

13.When thrown into a narrow place, bound in chains, they call for death.

14.“Do not call today for one death, but call for many deaths.”

15.Say: “Is that better, or the Garden of Eternity promised to the righteous?” It is their recompense and destination.

16.For them is whatever they desire therein, abiding forever—an enforceable promise upon your Lord.

17.On the Day He gathers them and what they worship besides Allah, He will say: “Did you mislead My servants, or did they stray themselves?”

18.They will say: “Glory be to You; it was not for us to take guardians besides You. But You gave them comfort until they forgot the Reminder and became ruined.”

19.So they will deny you in what you say; you cannot avert punishment or get help. Whoever does wrong among you, We make him taste great punishment.

20.We sent no messengers before you except they ate food and walked in markets. We made some of you a trial for others. Will you be steadfast? Your Lord is Seer.
